  I disagree with the diagnosis .
  Let me say that I love LG and do not like Google so I would have liked to jump on the bandwagon blaming Google. But I am very confident that this is a hardware issue.
  I have an LG Stylo 3 and had a cracked screen. To replace the screen and housing piece, it would have cost me $100 so I decided to purchase another LG Stylo 3 phone from my carrier for $60 instead. I swapped out my motherboard from my old phone and put it into the new phone (because I did not want to have to reset all of my phone defaults and other phone settings that do not transfer over on my Google account).
  I noticed right away that my fingerprint security was not working. I thought that maybe I would have to reset it but did not find the option to do so anymore . Also noted, I had recently had done an update which did not affect the fingerprint security option in any way.
  I opened my phone up again and swapped out the piece underneath the back cover that holds the finger button and camera lens cover and my fingerprint option is now working. Completely recogized without having to do anything further. It is also available under my settings as fingerprints and security instead of just security.
  In your case, was your phone replaced or repaired? Could you have damaged the finger button? BTW my carrier is Cricket.

  After the update, the option was removed. Through LG we would not have a way to re add the feature.

  If anyone else had the problem I know what it's from now. According to a LG tech support representative Google is their Developers. Google released an update to the Stylo 3 that completely removed the fingerprint scanner from the phone even from the factory restore. Dont know why or how to fix according to LG....
